He's all excited...I'm all excited...Dad's all excited. Then we decide to look them up online and we find out that the TWIN bed model...which is what we think is most practical in terms of how long he will use it...is $300!! That's from WalMart and then you have to pay shipping which is another $100! Whoa. We looked on KSL.com and found one for sale for $300. We wouldn't have to pay any shipping so that looks like a great deal from that angle. The ones on ebay, nobody wants to ship it so they are all local pick up only. There is one in New Jersey and one in Iowa or something like that. Those are probably a little farther then we want to drive.
We talked it over and decided we are going to stick to our deal. It's really expensive and will take careful planning and saving but we figure if Kooy can make the commitment to sleep in his bed and earn it, then we can commit to saving the money to buy one. His birthday is in November so we'll ask the grandparents to give us money for his new bed. I hope they will be willing to oblige. We'll ask Matt's family to give us money too. I was thinking of giving him a birthday party this year anyway...so don't anybody worry he won't get any new toys for his birthday. I think he'll get plenty. Hopefully with birthday money and money we'll save we can get one. We'll keep looking at the classifieds, hopefully one will come up that is less money. On that note....
...I want to hire every single one of you reading this blog. If you know anybody, or if you hear about someone, or if you see one at a garage sale, if you see a used one that we could buy for cheaper...PLEASE let me know. It has to be the twin size model though. I will buy you lunch and give you a big huge hug and kiss!! I know that's not much incentive but really you should just be a nice Christ-like person in the first place and not need a reward to motivate you.
Are we in way over our heads here? Do you think we should revise the deal before it really starts? I want to be a fun parent and buy my kids fun things IF THEY EARN IT, but is it too extravagant? I realize $300 for a bed may not seem like an extravagance to some of you...but for us it would be. As much as I want to stick to the deal a little voice in my head...which sounds remarkably like my mothers...tells me it might be too much. What do you think?

Well, good for you! Justin and I have strongly refused to ever let little ones in our bed. It's much easier to do the second time around, by the way. It is a commitment to live by this rule. You'll have to march him back to bed two or three times a night in the beginning, but it's definately worth it.
As for the bed, we'll keep an eye out over here. If I find a good deal I'll get it and you can pick it up when you come to the game with Taylor.
You mentioned his birthday was in November...here's hoping it won't take THAT long to break the habit!! Good luck!
We spent more than that on Clint's loft bed. I think if it's something they love, it's definately worth it. ANd what a great memory for him to think back and remember that he had a race car bed growing up!
Meeka is totally right. Once I got Misha out of our bed, there was no way I was gonna let Ian sleep in our bed. Once you set your mind to it, it really isn't so hard. Thank goodness for those "practice" babies. They help you figure everything out for the second baby.
Oh, and thanks for the details on the conception. I'm glad you guys aren't having trouble in THAT department. ;0)
Yeah, kid stuff is way overpriced, especially that kind of stuff. They totally see us coming. I would recommend doing Freecycle. I am a member of a couple here in Chicago, and I joined the Salt Lake one when I was there for the summer. It's just a Yahoo group, and it's free (of course). Anyway, it's where people give away items so they don't end up in the landfill. You can donate items and ask for items, and the email goes out to hundreds of people. I donated a dishwasher, and they people came and picked it right up. I also scored an entire box of computer paper, some Hosta plants, and coloring books. My neighbor ended up with 2 slides for her play set after asking for one. It's a pretty good place to go, and it's free, so why not try it out.
Sorry for the novel. Apparently I'm quite passionate about freecycle. ;)
Lisa you are too funny. The first part about the family bed...I was totally laughing, outloud. You are awesome!
Well I checked Ikea...I swore they had some car beds? But I didnt see any online. :( Maybe between now and then you will find something. And it will be perfect if the g-parents pitch in and help out.
What do I think about a 300 Dollar bed? Well, I'm pretty sure we grew up on DI beds, and Garage sale beds, and we didn't know the difference until we where adults.
Find a Garage sale or DI bed. Then have matt cut out a silhouette of a car from plywood and paint it, and attach it to the bed. I bet you could do it all for 60 or 70 bucks.
