Fourth of July Marathon '08

We had our day planned one activity into the next one. It was so exhausting by the end of the night I could hardly get my butt off my chair after our fireworks. It started out with the Bike Parade at 9am. Kooy was so excited to ride his scooter and wear his "special" hat. We got over to the church and all the kids were lining up along the sidewalk to start the parade. I didn't say a word and he went straight on over, weaseled his way in line, and stood there waiting. He knew exactly what was going on. I walked along on the sidewalk just to make sure he finished but I don't know what for. He just went and went and went. He did fall down a couple of times...once at the very beginning because he was so excited and got going too fast. Then another time when he was passing Miranda and Karla on the parade route. They were cheering his name and started showing off by lifting his leg up really high after a big kick off. It was really cute! He is such a tough guy though...he just gets back up and keeps going. I didn't even know he had skinned up his knees during the falls until later in the day when I finally saw them. I love that about my kid.

After the bike parade we went down to the Sandy City celebration. I have no pictures because I thought Matt had grabbed the camera but he hadn't. Oh well. Kooy played on the bouncy slides, I got a free massage, Matt got a Batman airbrushed tatoo. I was way disappointed in the booths they had this year. Nothing great to look at. From there we went home, packed up our swimming gear and went to Grandma Curtis's house. Matt's family were all there and we hopped in the pool to cool off a bit. Kooy has always been a great swimmer. We put the arm floaties on him and he is off! He wants hardly anything to do with us. The big boys were doing cannon ball contests and after that we could not stop him from jumping. He jumped over and over and over and over again!

After swimming it was over the Matt's brother, Jeremy's house for a BBQ. It was fun. My sis in law brought in Ladder Ball and everyone loved playing that. The best part was the homemade ice cream Matt and I made. We made one Rocky Road and another Cookies and Cream. Made from scratch, not a mix. It was Heavenly. But the bad news is in our hurry to get over to Jordan High to watch the fireworks we left the leftovers at Jeremy's house and told him we'd come get it later. Well, I guess I didn't know there would be a time limit to the deal, because when we called to say we were going to come get it they had eaten ALL OF IT!!!! I was sooooooo MADDDD! I almost cried but I was too mad. I know it sounds ridiculous to get so upset over a little bit of ice cream but I don't care. I'M PREGNANT AND I WANT MY ICE CREAM!!!!!! He is on my black list. It's going to be a while before I forget this one. That ice cream was really good and I had my mind set on it. Nothing could have satisfied me after that. I did go to Sonic and get a Vanilla Diet Coke though. It wasn't the ice cream but it was okay.

Anyway...wow. Heart rate is up a bit now thinking about it all over again. Okay...where was I.

We went over to Jordan High and sat on the hill and watched the kids play on the grass until fireworks started. Miranda, Scary Gary and their two youngest kids sat by us. My mother in law, my sister in law, us, and Miranda had all independently bought glow sticks, not knowing everyone else did too. So, we had plenty of glow sticks. I thought for sure a beam of light was shooting up from our spot on the grass there was so many. Matt and Landen had the most fun with them.

Matt is obviously from the school of Landen when it comes to posing for pictures.

Then it was back home for our own fireworks show. Miranda, Landen, the Bingham's and the Gibson's came over to watch, along with all of Matt's family of course. Kooy played with sparklers and did an encore performance of the bike parade.
By the time everyone went home it was almost midnight. That's when I could hardly get my butt off my chair. Thank goodness the next day was Saturday and we could sleep in and take a long nap in the afternoon.

Wow this post must really suck. 10 visits today and it didn't provoke any comments. Maybe I should quit the blog business. I don't care what you all say...I love the fourth of july and loved spending it with my little boy...and my big boy too. See if I comment on your blogs now...

Okay! Geese! I'll comment, already!

Why is Kooyman so cool? Cause he is. And I think you would be mad about the ice cream even if you weren't prego. Remember the time I ate your last no-bake cookie? Man, I'd never do that again....;0)

you're right..I'd still be pissed. At least right now I have a acceptable excuse. yeah...I have totally instilled the "last piece rule" at our house. Whoever made the treats...gets the last piece. It works out really good because I am always the one who makes the treats. Jeremy so broke this rule. No wonder he's so fat.

I think being pregnant just exaggerates those feelings though! There are few things that I REALLY MUST HAVE at this time in my pregnant life, but if I want them, GET OUTTA THE WAY, or you'll regret it. Sorry about your ice cream! Hope you've found time to make some more!

I promise this is the first time I have checked you blog. But anyways WoW you kind of got my heart racing too! I was really feeling your pain. Pregnant ladies should always get what they want (that's what I think anyways). I love the
4th of JUly too!

Lisa, how do you get that little sidebar thingy that lets you know when people post? I think it would most likely save me quite a bit of time...

It's a new feature. When you want to "add a page element" it's one of the options now. I think it's called Blog list.

Cool pics. You had a full day packed with lots of fun. Kooy looked so cute in the parade pics, love his scooter- and I love how tough he is with his wounds. What a good kid. I'd be bent about the ice cream too; especially if I had been planning on having the seconds all to myself. After all, it is the little things in life.
