It wasn't. At all. The luck of the "non-Irish" was with us today. So I don't mind St Patricks Day. I don't really celebrate (HOW do you celebrate anyway). No "leprechauns" visit our house in the night leaving shamrocks on our beds or making the toilet water green. These ideas didn't even cross my mind until after Kooy went over to Derek's house...and found out leprechauns visited their house. Luckily Kooy is pretty resilient and said to me in a totally upbeat-that's okay-tone of voice "Mom! The leprechaun's forgot about me!" I told him I bet they come next year for sure. :o)
I love how everywhere you go everyone is wearing green. It gives me such a good feeling. Like we're all not that different after all. We all got up that morning and thought the same thing, "Where's my green shirt. I've gotta wear green today." I felt as one with the world yesterday.
But despite all the green shirts we wore yesterday, it still didn't bring my and Kooy any luck at all. I knew it was going to be a bad day when my neighbor was knocking on the door, loudly I might add, opens it and yells out my name frantically.
"Lisa! Did you know your kid is heading down the street?!"
"No!"
Suddenly I felt like the worst mother of the year. I thought he was downstairs. I guess he was out back and left. That's the second time he's escaped without me having a clue. I was pretty depressed about it. I can't believe I let it happen AGAIN. :o(
It didn't end there. So again, with me being mother of the year, I of course let my son eat licorice and cheese for breakfast. He also found a quarter on the floor and thought he was the richest kid alive. And then he started jumping and climbing all over the couches. Put these three things together and you get:
1. A child choking on a quarter
2. Red throw up with chunks of cheese all over the carpet
So much for our newly cleaned carpets. Cleaned it up as best I could for the moment. I had to get all the kids loaded up into the car to go pick up my nephew from Kindergarten. I was babysitting my super best friends daughter too, so I went out to install an extra car seat. Put her in the car seat. Let Kooy goof around for another minute while I ran inside to get the baby and then I realized I couldn't see clearly so quickly put in my contacts. I was gone a minute and half maybe two. I come out with baby carrier in tow and here a heart breaking cry. I put the baby in and see Kooy in the very far back of the van bleeding from his mouth. Here I go again. Proving to every mother out there, she can't do it better than I! I open the back door, grab him, and realize the cause. He was playing with jumper cables and put one of the clamps in his mouth and pinched his tongue!!
I was scared because I just knew it had punctured all the way through and didn't think it would ever stop bleeding. So now I run back in leaving M and Peyton alone in the car to do first aid on Kooy. Surprisingly it wasn't that bad and the bleeding had already mostly stopped. So back out to the car to go pick up the nephew.
The rest of the afternoon happened without incident until right before dinner. He was outside throwing a golf ball around. As soon as I heard him crying I knew exactly what happened. He threw it up in the air and was trying to catch it and it landed right on his nose. That was the third thing. I knew we were done after that. These things always happen in threes.
The rest of the night was low key. Dad went to mutual. We stayed home and watched Toy Story. I knew it had been a rough day because he sat and watched the whole thing. Then he went to bed.
Hopefully next St. Patricks Day will be a little more LUCKY. :o)

Oh, rough day! I hope today is much, much better!
Oh Lisa, would you stop with the "worst Mom" thing! You have been watching 3 kids all week, with the occasional 4(Derek), and 5(Allison)! I just love kooy sooooo much! He is so fun. And I think you are pretty amazing too! You have a lot on your plate right now, with work, a new baby, a preschooler, and all of the things you do for others, so cut yourself some slack!!!!
Poor Kooy boy...Yeah...give yourself some slack...who in the world would dump their 2yr old kid on you along with everything else you got goin' on...OH...that would be me...SORRY! M loved spending 2 days with him...she's been exhausted ever since!
You know, you gotta love someone who has absolutely no problem admitting they have a day like this. Everyone has them, and it makes us all feel better knowing we aren't alone. You're an awesome Mom, Lise. I laughed SO HARD when I read this!
hmmmm I don't think that you are a terrible mom at all. In fact it's nice to know that other people have days like this as well. Sometimes it's all you can do just to keep them alive and well he's alive! I'd say that is a pretty good day!
Wow! That WAS an un-lucky day. At least when your kid escaped it was in your own neighborhood where someone would recognize him. Mine escaped at Walmart and a stranger found him in the parking lot.
It happens, Lisa...don't sweat it.
Better luck tomorrow!
Lisa your a great mom. Don't be so hard on yourself. Kooboy will survive and so will you. Kooy and Peyton are luck to have you for a mom.
Do you think that Peyton looks like Kooyman after all. Those two pictures are amazing. It sounds like you had a tyical day in motherhood. I LOL about him hitting himself with a golf ball. What a hoot. At least he isn't a whining booby boy. That Kooyboy is going to be an adventurer for sure. Keep up the good work. Can't tell you though that there won't be more days like that. Stuff happens!SKW
