When I was little I remember my mom making frosted sugar cookies for Valentines Day. I don't know if she did it every year for a while or just once and that's the one I remember. Anyway, We would wrap them in sandwich bags, insert the little valentine in it, then deliver them to our neighbor friends via doorbell ditching. It was awesome. I thought everybody delivered Valentines this way.
Since I've had a child, and now two, I can't let a Valentines Day go by without making them. I am usually on my own with this. Although Matt loves them and dreams about them he has yet to help me make them. Kooy has been too little to help in any capacity that wouldn't be labeled as bothersome.
This year he helped. And he LOVED it. He loved all the flour, rolling the dough, cutting the hearts, and eating the dough. It was a fun day. Matt had to work and Peyton just slept most the day. Kooyboy was my little Valentine this year.
Matt pretends to be bugged because it's usually an all day event and I am a terrible time manager. So we are always delivering them on our way "out" for our date or whatever. This year we just didn't feel like a romantic night out with the rest of the world waiting two hours for a table. Us, my sister in law, Emily, Matt's brother, Jeremy, and his family all went to the parents house and ate Pizza Benders courtesy of Italian Village. Then we played Hand and Foot. The highlight of the evening? Emily playing cards with us. She never does. But she did. It was her Valentines gift to Matt. At least that's how he guilted her in to playing. :o) And then she won.
Matt bought me some pearls. I wasn't sure I liked them at first but then I wore them and I LOVE them. I am so glad he knew better than I did. (I wore them on Peyton's baby blessing day. You can see them in the pics if you really want to go back and look) I bought him CK Eternity cologne and Tiger Woods Golf. Now he smells good...while he plays Wii...mmmmm. We didn't buy each other Christmas gifts so we went a little big for Valentines.
I like Valentines Day. I'm always up for anything that's gonna get me presents or a dinner out.
P.S. I can change my background now that I've finally done my obligatory Valentines post right?

What a fun tradition! I love that pic of Kooy showing off his dough-y hands. He looks so proud!
(I still have my Valentine's background up...)
You know, there's just something so JOLLY about that boy. You just want to HUG him. He's so friggin' cute! Those cookies look yummy--I should make some! Trevor likes them. He eats about four. And then he never eats anymore and they get stale.
We made cookies too. But the day after. And Jason actually helped too.I never manage to get to the delivering part, though. I'm sure that's why my pants are a little tight right now.
When we were moving on to Altair Dr. way back in 1979 it was valentines day. The sweet neighbors, Maudeen Burton brought a plate of frosted cookies to us. Then the cute Belliston kids ran up and put cookies and valentines on the porch and ran away. At the time I didn't know who had done it, though. It made moving in day very special for our family. That is where the tradition started. Lisa was just a baby then. Kooy is the happy fun loving guy. What a great mom you are to take the time to do that with him.
So my appetite is back, suddenly, and I find myself wanting to eat all the time. And for the last few days, the picture of those valentines cookies enter my head and I think, "oooh! I want some! I need to make some!" and then I don't. That is all.
We were lucky enough to get some of these DELICIOUS cookies...I think we ate them within seconds of them hitting our door...they seriously were so YUMMY...thank you for putting us on your list of cool friends to get these.
Yeah...um...change the background...xoxo
PS...I knew ALL about the pearls and am so jealous. I'll have to check out the photos again seems as though I MISSED seeing them person...please wear them again soon!
Yes. I would like to see the pearls too!
What a fun tradition. Wish you had mentioned it earlier so we could have participated in it this year! :) We'll do it next year for sure. The cookies look YUMMMMY! They turned out awesome for sure. Probably because they were cooked on an awesome stone. hehe.
